Short-term Disability Benefit Plan (STD):

is designed to provide weekly income benefits
shortly after the first day of disability.

would like to have in their group STD plan.
For example, 1 calendar day E.P., 7
calendar days E.P., or 14 calendar days

short-term disability benefits are also designed
to be paid for a specific period of time called

union decides on the maximum benefit for the
STD benefits to be paid. For example, could be 26
weeks or 52 weeks.
What is
the Elimination Period? (Example Only)
The period for which a benefit is payable will
commence following any accumulated sick leave or
salary continuation period and the Elimination
Period shown in the example shown below:

calendar days for Injury
7 calendar days for Sickness
Note:
Benefits begin on the first day following
completion of the Elimination Period.
- Benefits are not paid for days
considered "Elimination Period" (in this example,
the first 7 days of disability)
- Benefits are not paid retroactive to the 1st day
of disability.
What is the Maximum Benefit Period? (Example Only)
Applicable
to Injury:
The period for which a benefit is payable,
following completion of the Elimination Period, for
any one disability will end on the earliest of:
a.
the end of the disability; or
b. the end of the __th week of disability
for which a benefit is payable. (determined by
union)
Applicable
to Sickness:
The period for which a benefit is payable,
following completion of the Elimination Period, for
any one disability will end on the earliest of:
a.
the end of the disability; or
b. the end of the __th week of disability
